Duerer as 20-years-old, selfpainting

Duerer (1471 - 1528) visited Venice in 1494 in the age of 23 and it seems likely, that he became known to the Mantegna Tarocchi at this occasion. His interests in the object stayed small, he tried 2 different pens and various different styles, as if he couldn't decide, how to do it. Then he left the project (as far we know it). Duerer left 1000's of works about very different topics, it is curious, that he didn't leave much to us, which reminds the normal style of Tarot cards as we know it. Either he wasn't interested or he didn't know them. I've chosen 4 objects, which are most nearest to the motifs of Tarot, but actually even them are rather different.

Apollo (Sun) / Death / Devil (Detail) / Fortuna (Detail)
