Tarot News - September 2013
Franco Pratesi's "Minchiate/Germini articles" (2011-2013)
(collected, commented and sorted by myself; Franco Pratesi wouldn't call at least some of the articles not as Minchiate articles, as they relate to usual playing cards as well; I count them here as "Minchiate/Germini articles", as all help to understand something of the Minchiate development)
-
ROSENWALD’S FOURTH SHEET - 24.11.2011
(a specific consideration, according which the Rosenwald Tarocchi might have been an early 15th century Minchiate deck)
-
1517 GERMINI AMONG OTHER GAMES - 28.03.2012
(two documents were found, according which the name "Germini" was used in Florence in 1517 and 1519; these are the oldest appearances of "Germini", much earlier than the next, 1529, which also found in the recent years)
-
(1606 + 1693) 17th CENTURY: GERMINI, TAROCCHI, MINCHIATE - 14.05.2013
( 2 documents, from which the first makes clear, that "Tarocchi" still played a role in Toscana in 1606; from 1636 on it seems clear, that there was no Tarocchi production in Toscana; imports of Tarocchi appeared again 1752, though this seems to have been a not vey relevant appearance; Tuscany itself didn't produce Tarocchi in this period)
-
DOMANDA E RIPOSTA - 07.03.2013
(Minchiate poem mid 17th century)
-
1691-1707 – CARDS AT CASINO DEI GENTILUOMINI IN PISA - 31.08.2013
Additional material in the appendix
(Playing Cards use in a casino in Pisa for several years; the lists give the impression, as if Minchiate might have been then even more popular than in the period 1775-1790, when Minchiate production had reached a market participation of nearly 10 %)
-
CARD PLAYING IN PRATO IN THE 18TH CENTURY - 13.09.2013
Additional material in the appendix
(of minor importance, but contains the otherwise missing information, that there were different Minchiate games)
-
1729-1762: EXPORTS OF FLORENTINE MINCHIATE - 07.05.2013
with an addition:
Minchiate Export Lists 1729-1762
(4% of the Minchiate export went to countries outside of Italy)
-
1752-1780 – TAX STAMPS ON TAROCCHI IN FLORENCE ? - 23.06.2013
(only indirectly about Minchiate; but about "missing Tarocchi in Tuscany" during 18th century, so finally about the dominant position of Minchiate)
-
1775-87 : CARD PRODUCTION IN TUSCAN GRAND DUCHY - 26.01.2013
(Minchiate has then a market participation of nearly 10%)
-
1791 PRODUCTION AND SALE OF PLAYING CARDS IN TUSCANY - 24.03.2012
(again: Minchiate has a market participation of nearly 10%)
-
1801-07 – CARD PRODUCTION IN THE ETRURIA KINGDOM - 12.01.2013
(the political state of Tuscany had changed then; it was then more Spanish under some French control)
-
1810-1811 – PLAYING CARDS IN LUCCA, 22.03.2013 -
(doesn't include Minchiate, but just confirms, that at this time Lucca hadn't Minchiate; Lucca had been under French control then)
-
1815-1861: THE PRODUCTION OF PLAYING CARDS IN TUSCANY - 15.06.2013 with an addition:
Additional material
(a very big article, which shows the downfall of Minchiate production in Tuscany from 4-5 % market participation in the time of 1815-1820 to around 0.1 % in 1861)
-
1814-1862 – ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE ON CARD PRODUCTION IN TUSCANY
(a sort of supplement to the article before, about all this, which was put aside to show the base line of the development)
-
1821-1829: PUZZLING MINCHIATE BY GIUSEPPE BERRETARI - 18.06.2013
(perhaps a special experiment to revive the Minchiate game inside the period, when Minchiate became less popular)
-
1821-1829 – PUZZLING MINCHIATE REVISITED - 05.07.2013
(referring to the same Giuseppe Berretari and the related circumstances as the article before)
-
FLORENTINE CARD PRODUCTION IN ABOUT 1840 ? - 18.11.2011
(Minchiate had then a market participation of only 1%)
-
1835-1855: AREZZO, CARD PLAYING AT ACCADEMIA DEI COSTANTI - 18.05.2013
(it refers to Arezzo and so to the series of Arezzo articles, but the deciding observation is, that Minchiate had fallen at the end of the period to a very small participation - quite in contrast to 18th century Minchiate)
-
CONTROL ON PLAYING CARDS IN FLORENCE AROUND 1880 - 19.09.2013
(after the death of Minchiate the game has disappeared)
(collected by Lothar Teikemeier)
